    Rules & Code of Conduct

     Property:

    • Please respect the property: no touching the decor and displays, inside and outside, place all garbage in the trash cans. Anyone found defacing the property in any way will be dismissed from the studio immediately and held accountable for cost and repairs , No smoking or littering on the property, both indoors and outside. Please pick up your belongings, do not wear street shoes in the studios, keep the waiting rooms and washrooms tidy. Students must take all belongings when they leave the studio.
    • Students are prohibited from hanging on the ballet barres, touch the mirrors or attempt operate the sound systems
    • Dancing with tap shoes on, is not permitted on the Waiting room floor, as it damages the flooring.
    • Please park side by side on both sides of the driveway, keeping the center open, for entering/exiting the studios.  Parking is available below Studio C/D. Large vehicles/trucks must park in the lower parking lot. Do not park or block in the “home owner” and “Employee” spots.
    • Please stay within the designated business areas, when on property (studios, waiting rooms, store, parking lots). Areas that are off limits are, the private residence, deck, front and back lawn.
    • Students, parents/guardians & staff aren’t allowed to hang up posters or hand out pamphlets or brochures that aren’t associated with MFSD or SSDS on the property.
    • Parents/Guardians are responsible for their children, while not in class. Students and other children must sit on the benches in the waiting room quietly when not in class. Students are not allowed to play or sit on the stairs, in the waiting room of the house studios, as well as outside on the deck or any of the property.
    • Upon arrival, students are to put their belongings on a hook and footwear in designated areas. All dancers will remove their outdoor footwear upon entrance to the studio. On viewing day, parents/visitors are also required to remove their outdoor  footwear. Outdoor footwear is to be kept under the shelving unit in the Studio C/D waiting room & under the benches in the Studio A/B waiting room. This policy is in effect for all of the dance year and is not seasonal. Please do not leave your shoes blocking the doorway.
    • Students are prohibited from hanging on the ballet barres, touching the mirrors or attempting to operate the sound systems.
    • Business transactions, exchanges and/or meetings on our property, that aren’t arranged by MFSD and/or dance store, are prohibited.

      Expectations:

    • Students must arrive on time for class as well as make every effort to attend all classes. Please email the teacher, to notify us if a student will be absent. Tardiness is very disruptive to the flow of the class for the teacher and other students. If you arrive late, please knock on the door and wait for someone to let you in. Students who are more than 10 minutes late will be required to observe class.
    • Students and parents/guardians are prohibited from printing the MFSD logo or dance school name onto items.
    • Please do not address the teachers and directors (including Maureen), with concerns before, during or after class, as they are teaching classes back to back and don’t have extra time. For store related matters as well as emergencies, please speak to an employee in the dance store, as the store will be open when dance classes are in session. For any other queries, please email: info@maureenfraserschoolofdance.ca Please do not knock on or open the door, labelled “Private”, as it is the entrance to a private residence.
    • All emails or FB messages sent to or from the dance school inbox are considered private. All communications with the dance school are not to be shown to any other individuals without the permission of MFSD.
    • Any disrespectful or argumentative communication from parents/guardians or students toward our staff (teachers, directors, etc) and volunteers, via online or in person, will not be tolerated.
    • Students must respect the personal space/comfort level of fellow students and refrain from carrying them around or making unnecessary physical contact. This is also a safety concern.
    • Any hostile remarks and/or threatening behavior toward volunteers, teachers, staff and the directors will not be tolerated. Anyone displaying this behavior will be asked to leave the premises.
    • Students/teachers/directors/designated helpers only, are permitted to enter the dance studios. Students will not be allowed in any dance studio without a teacher present. No tricks are to be attempted or practiced without the teacher’s supervision/ permission. Do not open the door while a class or private lesson is in progress, unless a teacher, director, or other staff member has acknowledged that is fine. Opening the door during this is very distracting to the students and teachers.
    • After the class is completed the instructor has a new group of students to supervise, so we ask that you please be on time when coming to pick your child up from his/her dance class. As well, parents are not to drop students off in their class until the scheduled start time, or until their instructor has indicated that they can come in. Parents of younger students are welcome to wait in the waiting area.
    • We reserve the right to dismiss any student from classes, if their behavior causes too much disruption and if they pose a threat to others in the class. Every effort to change this behavior will be made first.
    • PLEASE NOTE: On occasion there will substitute teachers for classes. In these instances the substitute teacher will be provided lesson plans, music, notes and anything necessary to be fully prepared to teach the class.

      Policies:

    • For the safety and protection of everyone on the property, surveillance cameras are located in all studios, waiting rooms, the office, store and outside the buildings.
    • Do not knock on the door of the Office. If you are arriving for an appointment please call (902) 863-1731 before entering the Office and a staff member will let you in.
    • The ages listed for each class serve as a guideline. There may be some circumstances where students are placed at a different level based on previous dance experience/ ability. Students being placed in a class other than the one listed for their age range will be based solely on the discretion of the directors and dance instructors.
    • Parents/Guardians must inform teachers of any medical/behavioral issues that may affect their progress in class, along with any medications being taken.
    • Food is not permitted in both the Waiting area and Dance Studios, with the exception of students in 3+ back to back classes. Please respect the peanut & nut free policy on our property. Fast food (junk food) & gum will not be permitted. Students can bring water & healthy snacks for their break.
    • Students/parents are responsible for their own belongings and must check the “Lost and Found” located in Studio C/D. The teachers/directors/store employees are not responsible/liable for any lost or stolen items on the property where lessons are, as well as any other performance location, including the annual recital.
    • Students must wear the required outfit (refer to dress code) for every class. The dress code is mandatory for ALL students. Students who do not come prepared for class in the proper uniform will be asked to observe the class, unless they are waiting for an ordered uniform. For all classes, dancing in sock feet is strictly prohibited, as it is a safety concern. For recitals and photos, students are prohibited from adding items or taking away items from their costumes, i.e. extra headpiece.
    • Cell phones/electronics will not be allowed in class, unless students are requested to record their dance routine(s).

    • No make-up classes, credits or refunds will be offered if students miss classes, workshops or special events.
    • All dance fees paid, including costume and registration fees, as well as any fundraising amounts collected, are non-refundable. If there is a temporary closure due to unforeseen circumstances, all class fees will be held in credit.
